白河北殿は，白河上皇(1053～1129)の院御所で，南本御所に対して北殿や北新御所と称された。その後は上西門院(1126～89)の御所となっていたが，保元元(1156)年7月に崇徳上皇(1119～64)が移り住み，保元の乱の勃発とともに平清盛(1118～81)らの軍勢によって焼失した。この石標はその御所跡を示すものである。（京都市）Shirakawa Hokuden was the imperial palace of the retired Emperor Shirakawa (1053-1129), and was called Hokuden or Kitashin Imperial Palace in contrast to Minamihon Imperial Palace. After that, it became the imperial palace of Jozaimonin (1126-89), but in July 1156, Retired Emperor Sutoku (1119-64) moved there, and with the outbreak of the Hogen War, Taira no Kiyomori (1118- 81) was burnt down by the army of the others. This stone marker marks the site of the Imperial Palace.(Kyoto City)
