歴史ある建造物宮廷文化に思いを馳せさせる貴重な建造物の数々。現在の地に創建された聖護院の建物は、文明十九年（1487）に焼失。その後、寺は御所の付近（現在の烏丸今出川）に移転します。しかし約二百年後の延宝三年（1675）の大火でその建物も全焼の憂き目に遭い、創建当初の旧地に伽藍を再建する事となって現在に至ります。約五千坪の敷地には宸殿・本堂・書院・庫裡（くり）等が並び、仮皇居として用いられていた御座所や光格天皇の私室である一夜造りの学問所、愛用のお茶室など、由緒深い建物がかつての朝廷文化の風韻を漂わせています。（当院HPより）山門をくぐると正面に大玄関がります。山門正面にある、宸殿の入り口。踏み入った部屋では、狩野永納、益信らによって描かれた老松の障壁画が見る者を圧倒します。historic buildingThere are many valuable buildings that remind you of court culture.The Shogoin building that was built on its current location was destroyed by fire in 1487.
