寸 法 高60×幅50×奥行20cm碑 文[北] 史跡西寺大炊殿跡(京都市)Sai-ji Temple is one of the two official temples of Heian-kyo, which was built to the west of Rajomon when Heian-kyo was founded in 794. In 823, Toji Temple was given to Kukai (774-835) and Saiji Temple to Moritoshi (birth and death dates unknown). While To-ji Temple developed as a training hall for Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, it developed as an official temple for the protection of the nation. An excavation in 1972 unearthed a large foundation stone, and since it is near the dining room, it is presumed that this area was the Oitoden. This stone marker marks the ruins of the large cooking hall of Sai-ji Temple. This area is included in the nationally designated historic site, Nishi-dera Ruins.Dimensions Height 60 x Width 50 x Depth 20cmInscription[North] Historic Site Nishi-ji TempleOtoden Ruins(Kyoto City)
