四条坊門小路は平安京を東西に走る道路で，三条大路と四条大路の中間に位置し，その南には錦小路，北には六角小路が並行して通る。現在の蛸薬師通にほぼ該当し，4丈(約12ｍ)の道幅を有した。この石標はその跡を示すものである。昭和49(1974)年，市電壬生車庫跡地を発掘調査した際，平安から鎌倉時代の四条坊門小路南北両側溝，平安時代前期と中期の井戸，中期から後期の建物群の遺構が検出された。その後の試掘調査でも，平安前期から鎌倉時代にかけての四条坊門小路南側溝やその路面が検出された。（京都市）建立年 1976年 建立者 京都市寸 法 高93×幅18×奥行18cm碑 文 [北] 四条坊門小路跡[南] 昭和五十一年建立 京都市[西] 昭和四十九年平安調査会発掘Shijobomonkoji is a road that runs from east to west in Heiankyo, and is located between Sanjooji and Shijooji, with Nishikikoji to the south and Hexagonal alley to the north. It almost corresponds to the current Takoyakushi-dori, and has a road width of 4 lengths (about 12 m). This stone mark shows the mark. In 1974, when the site of the streetcar Mibu garage was excavated, the remains of the Shijobomon alley north-south ditches from the Heian period to the Kamakura period, wells in the early and middle Heian period, and buildings from the middle to late period were detected. Subsequent exploratory excavation surveys also detected the south side ditch of Shijobomonkoji and its road surface from the early Heian period to the Kamakura period.
