日天寺の特徴
八大龍王日天寺は、世界観を感じる荘厳な仏教寺院です。
釈迦の眷属としての八大龍王を祀り、水の恵みを与える神格を持つ場所です。
えげつない登り階段の横には、便利な荷物用リフトが整備されています。
先日行ってきました。ここ含め参拝した方達のあげてくれている写真よりも現在は朽ちかけてかなり荒れており、階段やお堂も野ざらしで全く人の手が入っていません。私が見落としたのか本当にないのかは自信がないですが昔水が出ていたであろう龍等もなくなっていました。落ちてきたら危ないから撤去されたのかも。一番上のお堂の手前の階段はヒビ割れだらけで崩れてしまいそうなほどでとても危ないです。少し掃除できたら良かったですが無関係の者が触れていいのかわからずお参りだけして帰路につきました。当日は豪雨の影響か数日前に山道に泥が流れ出し大変だったようでまだ作業の途中でした。日天寺前の橋がかかっている川も濁って流れも早くて轟々とすごい音でした。一人で行ったのとその轟音と人の気配の無さや荒れ具合も相まって少し怖かったけど普段はもっと穏やかで静かなのかなと思います。真ん前にバス停がありますがあまり本数がないらしく、私は銀閣寺道で降りて行きはタクシー（停めるところがないからと帰りは待ってもらえなかった）で帰りはそこまで歩きましたが全然歩ける距離でした。

Hachidai-Ryuoh Nittenji Temple 八大龍王日天寺ittenji Temple is a Buddhist shrine founded at the foot of Mt. Hiei Yamagoe Drive. It has been little deserted since there is no one takes care of this shrine at the regular routine and there is no information of here available.The sign in front of the shrine says 八大龍王日天寺 Hachidai-Ryuoh-Nittenji. 八大龍王 Hachidai-Ryuoh means the King of 8 great dragons and it is a deity which is known as the incarnation of Shaka himself in a form of dragon. It is believed to have brought rain and blessed humans with water. Hachidai-Ryuoh is a god which bless you with water.八大龍王は、釈迦生身の眷属で、釈迦生誕の砌、彼等が天より甘露を降らせ祝福したともいう高い神格をもつ龍神。水を司どる神、水分の神でもある。They usually have the image of a dragon around their necks.日天 Nitten u003d Sun. It is a deity of Sun. This deity is one of 12 heavenly gods. Nitten is the one to protect heaven or sky according to the Buddhism. In another way it is also called 妙法山日天寺 Myohozan Nittenji since it is built on the side of a mountain called Mt. Myoho. 日天（にちてん、にってん）は、仏教における天部の一人で、十二天の一人。Right from the beginning you will see this stairs with steep slope to the main hall. there you will see a lift for luggage on the side. It shows how they used to lift things up and down when this place was still in use.There is no one working on the maintenance of this place. As you look around you will see these 2 statues. This statue of a woman praying is the founder of this temple who was believed to have a special healing ability.There is a pond where the water flows into. You will see some goldfish in this pond built next to a house where no one has lived for a long time. There is a way to go up there with stairs.The river flowing by in front of the temple is Shirakawa River in which white sand is formed. This fact became the origin of the name of a street called Shireakawa Street in Sakyo-ku. ( Shira u003d Shiro u003d White + Kawa u003d River ) u003d all together White Sand River The mountainous water contains particles of these granite makes the it white. this fact has given the name of this area as Kitashirakawa. These rocks have been used for carving stone such as stone lanterns and tomb stones etc. and it has been a major contribution to its local industry from the past time.The large part of Shirakawa stream is running through Higashiyama area in Sakyo-ku. In the part of Biwako Sosui you can see piles of white san which is formed by accumulated particles of granite. In front of the temple lies a lot of stone lanterns and other type of structures for Japanese gardens. The sign which indicate the location of the temple is this. You will see this on your right as you move toward east.The white sand from the granite rocks created its local culture of trade contributing to the traditional gardens of Kyoto such as Karesansui garden of Ryoanji Temple. 秋真っ只中に伺いました。前から気になっていたところでやっと行けたという感じです。すごい急な階段か、左手の少しなだらかな道を選んで登れます。他の投稿でもあるように、人気が全くないのと、落ち葉の季節で落ち葉だらけでした。しかし、龍に関係する社殿が2つほどあり、一番上の奥の院のようなところに八大龍王と妙見大菩薩、猿田彦命が祀られていました。途中に稲荷社もありました。参拝者が増えて、維持管理が行き届いたら趣のあるいい場所だと思います。
えげつない登り階段の横に荷物用リフトが、左りコースを進むと少しなだらかな九十九折れ。
傾斜がとても高い階段を上り向かいましたが、本殿、社務所は閉鎖されていました。手入れされていれば、とても趣きのある良い神社だと思います。

周辺のオススメ
大文字山を登った帰りに見つけて訪問｡非常に趣のあるよい場所でした。ますます荒れていくばかりと思われるので、訪れるならばお早めに。
